Can A Ferret Be Kept At Home Without A Cage

Recently I saw a girl with a ferret walking along the street. A small pretty face peeked over his shoulder, a furry animal twisted its head curiously, examining passers-by. He did not even try to escape, but simply rode on his mistress.

Dogs, cats, fish – we are used to these pets and we know how to keep them. The ferret is an unusual animal; he appeared in the houses of Kachkanars not so long ago. The first questions that come to mind when you want to get a ferret – how will a wild animal take root at home, how to feed it and how to care for it?

We visited Katie. She and her friend Tanya gladly shared their impressions of their favorites – the cute ferrets Step and Nyusha.

Styopa is noticeably different from the miniature Nyusha, weighs 2.5 kilograms, and his coloring is different. The hosts say that ferrets have thousands of colors – from snow-white to black, there are even albinos.

Nyusha and Stepa for 8 months, friends bought them six months ago. It’s easy to care for them, the main thing is to feed and clean the pot on time. But from the pot it smells of honey, and from the beast itself it smells of musk. The smell is pleasant and not sharp.

– The ferret costs 3 thousand, the cage – 4. We feed with elite cat food. A kilogram pack lasts for a month, about 500 rubles.

The hosts do not feed ferrets with other food; they give only apples, kiwi, bananas. Dairy animals are generally not allowed, they like raw meat and liver, but feed is easier to feed. There are no special cages for ferrets either; they live in a cage for rabbits. They have a hammock in a cage, ferrets like to sleep in it.

There are no ferret specialists in the city, only the Internet helps. In the veterinary clinic, ferrets were already given two vaccinations for rabies; Stepa and Nyusha even have a medical record with seals. Katya wants to have another ferret so that her Stepa has someone to play with, but then, her friends joke, she will have to allocate a separate room for them:

“Then it’s not the ferrets who live with me, but I with them!”

While we were talking with the owners, ferrets scurried around endlessly, sniffing at us and each other, running around the apartment, clattering loudly on the floor with claws, started to play and fool around, then scattered in different directions, and it all started again. We noticed that these active animals do not like to be photographed and adore open bags. They are cheerful and constantly in motion. And if you meet together – it’s just fun! So human housing for a ferret is a very convenient mink.
