How To Not Feed A Ferret
How to not feed a ferret
In today’s article I would like to touch on the topic of feeding domestic ferrets, namely. than you can’t feed a ferret. Unfortunately, many novice pet dogs think that a ferret, like any other animal familiar to us, will only eat what it can and is useful. Not at all. They are like small children, they drag everything in their mouths and try on the tongue, and often this is all harmful and dangerous. So why not a ferret?
Certain fish species are contraindicated in ferrets.. Such as: smelt, sprat, sprat, hamsa, capelin, some types of herring, as well as herring, carp, crucian carp, including perch, pike, burbot, soroga, ide, sardinella, sardine. These types of fish contain an enzyme such as thiaminase, which destroys vitamin B1 (thiamine, the old name is aneurine). This enzyme is mainly concentrated in scales and fins, as well as in the guts of these fish species.
Pollock, polar cod (polar creeper), blue whiting, pollock, hake, haddock, Esmark creeper – all these fish species contain trimethylamine oxide, which binds iron and turns it into an unapproachable form. When giving such fish, animals can experience anemia and white fluffiness (weakening of the color of down hair in fur animals).
Food from the table. Soups, cereals, fried, smoked, sausages, sweets, any drinks, onions, garlic, etc. Such food does not fit the ferret. Despite his pitiful eyes, you should not feed him this.
Cat food economy class (whiskas, kiteket, phiriskas, darling, night hunter, etc.) and dog food – as these feeds do not meet the nutritional needs of ferrets.
Ferrets need to be fed only with Super premium class feed for kittens or with special feeds for ferrets.
No milk, because it contains lactose, which is poorly absorbed, and ferret may have diarrhea from milk. It is possible in small quantities cheeses, cottage cheese, fermented baked milk, but only as a treat, and not as the main diet.
It is undesirable to feed raw chicken eggs. The protein of raw eggs contains albumin avidin, which binds biotin and converts it into an undigestible form. With a lack of biotin, moulting is impaired, hairline growth is delayed, hair loss and depigmentation of pubescence are observed. Therefore, before feeding a chicken egg, it is necessary to boil it.
Instead of a chicken egg, it is better to give a quail egg, it can be given 1-2 times a week, both boiled and raw.
Fruits, especially citrus fruits, such as, for example, orange, mandarin, etc., they are not recommended, as they contribute to increased acidity in the stomach. Some compare how it is like giving a person a drink of vinegar. Do not forget about vegetables, such as potatoes, carrots and rutabaga … They cause a blockage in the ferret.
Bananas are possible, but again as a treat 1-2 times a week, no more than 10% of the total diet.
Sugar-containing foods, stewed fruit, jelly, etc. Since chorine gastric juice is able to digest carbohydrates (starch) only partially digested (with a mouse, bird, in general, whom it catches). That is why grains for minced meat boil until they completely turn into slurry, where starch breaks up into smaller parts.
In any case, it is worthwhile to understand that ferrets are predators and that their diet should consist primarily of meat products or dry feed, which are recommended for ferrets.
