Tail baldness – a phenomenon often found among domestic ferrets. It can be caused by a whole range of reasons, among which experts note:
- The lack of some substances in the diet, including vitamin deficiency;
- Seasonal changes in the hairline;
- Metabolic disease;
- Adrenal gland failure.
- Chemical or sun exposure.

If you have a female, or baldness is not associated with a change in the season, you should take a closer look at your pet: has it become lethargic, is it eating normally, is it not showing excessive passivity. If these symptoms occur along with baldness of the tail, it is also worth visiting a veterinarian. This can be a metabolic or hormonal imbalance, as well as a weakening of the body due to improper nutrition. It is better to entrust the solution of such problems to a specialist.
Stress can also cause tail baldness in ferrets. Hair loss can be a reaction to moving, a change of owner, a change of climate. Provide the animal with favorable conditions, and the hairline will be restored.
In addition, another possible cause of the sudden loss of tail in a ferret is a sunburn or chemical burn. By elementary signs, it will be immediately noticeable whether this reason takes place. The tail will be covered with small blisters, will have a red tint, the skin will peel off. In this case, treat the tail of the ferret with a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide.
This is a rare case, but in this case, the tail of the ferret bald rapidly due to skin lesions. Soon, the coat will recover.
